recount01: A secret: I purchased a new cell phone for Umma and a used one for myself.  I ended up spending significant amount of money... huhu..

MY DAD SAID HUHU!!  Hahaha, I couldn't stop laughing.

So when I asked him which phone, he said:

recount01: I bought a RAZR motorola for Umma.  That one looked real sturdy.
me: oh, a lot of people use it.
recount01: Good.  I hope she likes it, and does not kill me.

Dilemma: 2 wedding invitations for April 2008.  School most definitely secondary.

1. Good friend getting married in Korea.

Pros

• Get to see all of my HK friends again
• Want to see my fellow Sunday School teacher get married

Cons

• Korea...
• May run into relatives
• If I don't go, I may get beat up

2. Roommate from last year getting married in Brazil.

Pros

• Brazil!
• All her friends are sons/daughters of diplomats and speak great English
• Brazilians are apparently fabulous hosts?
• Never been to Brazil

Cons

• Not in Rio (Brasilia...)
• Don't know anyone besides her and a handful of her friends
• By myself??
• Don't speak a word of Portuguese, let alone Spanish

AHH, busy, busy, busy.  Too busy to write complete sentences.  School very demanding, but much better than working life.  Tomorrow end of 2nd week of classes.  Btw, found passport at home.  Wasted $300 after all.  Bummer.  Went to NYC for Labor Day weekend for one last hurrah before classes started; fun to see Penn people after 2 years.  Saw Hairspray and "Little Miss Sunshine"; excellent.  Highly recommend.  Went back again last weekend to pick up stuff from HK.  Movers supposed to do it, but called last minute to give additional charges (didn't even provide a truck - had to rent separately!).  Total quote came to $730.  Pissed off; fired them.  Took Chinatown bus to NY Saturday night, rented car, drove down Sunday morning.  NY and NJ drivers crazy.  Delaware tiny; drove through in 10 minutes.  Tolls expensive.  DC roads incomprehensible; diagonal streets!?  Glad tomorrow Friday.  Miss HK, SP, Elyse, students, food, money..., but happy to be student again   Some crazy people at Georgetown, though...oh, and still looking for church.  Want white friends again.

Penn reunion in DC: 5 (6?) generations of Quakers!

Moved to DC yesterday and I've been settling in.  Dorm room is incredible!  It's nicer than my apartment in HK, haha.  Law school campus is really clean and nice, and my roommate's really cool.  She's studying for her LLM, is from Brazil, and speaks 4 languages!  I feel like such a loser next to her, with my 1.5 language skills.  Anyways, the rest of this week is orienation and registration stuff, so not much to do.  SO, I'll be going to New York on Thursday night and staying through the weekend.  And that will probably be my last pleasure trip for a loooooooooong time

Also, does anyone someone who is willing to sell off a tv?

So much can happen within 6 years!  I lost touch with most of my high school friends after we graduated, but last night I met up with some old friends and we tried to catch up on our mutual friends' latest happenings.

For instance, I had no idea that one of my best friends from Leon was in a movie!  I haven't seen it yet (I was in HK when it was released); it's not in theaters anymore, but it hasn't been released on DVD, either.  Has anyone seen Stick It?  Maddy played Mina Hoyt, and yes, she did all her own gymnastics moves.  Crazy...she's on IMDB, just like Eve.  Ah...what am I doing in law school?

And this one guy basically eloped and moved with his wife to Germany.  One of my friends is pregnant with her 2nd child, one's a youth pastor, and the list goes on and on.  Unfortunately, a LOT of people have fallen into drug addiction and other bad stuff.  What's going on??
